What does the URLB think of the NBA Playoffs so far? Absolutely amazing. Can we all just come to the agreement now that anyone out there still arguing that the NBA isn’t good basketball, that the players don’t care and that they can’t relate to the game, is just an ignorant ass? Is that too strong of a statement?I watched three games yesterday in their entirety (ok, I missed like an hour of the Lakers game) and there was never one point when I felt anything less than completely entertained. Here are a few thoughts on the playoffs to this point:Players who have impressed me the most (in no particular order, and I’m not counting guys like Bron and Dirk who I expect to be impressed by):1. Jared Jeffries – Hated that he came out after his freshman year and always held it against him, but he’s becoming a legit role player for the Wiz and maybe their only chance to contain the King.2. Kevin Martin – The fact that he’s about four inches on his high top fade away from being a dead ringer from Kid of Kid n Play fame, is an obvious plus. But he’s got some energy and absolutely saved the Kings last night when Dirty Ron got into foul trouble. I might have said Bonzi Wells here, but I had him on my fantasy team this year and know that if he hadn’t gotten hurt and probably would have averaged 18 and 11 for the season. 3. Tony Parker – Ric Bucher wrote something today about benching Parker and playing Manu at the point in Game 5. If that happens, the Spurs are done (and I think they might be done anyway). Parker consistently breaks down the Sac D and gets to the rim better than any point guard in the playoffs. Players I’ve been disappointed in:1. Kung Pau: Much like what happened with Dirk early in his career, Gasol is consistently getting manhandled in the playoffs, and this year it comes courtesy of Diop and Dampier, who aren’t exactly the Twin Towers. Maybe more time in the weight room this summer and less time growing your beard?2. Matrix: One of my favorite guys in the league, and again he’s a disaster when it counts. This is two straight seasons of playoff crap for Marion. 3. Melo: He’s not getting any help from his teammates, but I was starting to like being able to call him one of the top 5 most clutch guys in the league. I guess I jumped the gun.4. Shaq: His reign as league’s most dominant player is over. Watching him has been depressing for anyone who grew up waiting for him to break another backboard. He’s being dominated by Tyson Chandler and Michael Sweetney. This is not good.Favorite players to watch:1. Artest: Can’t explain it, but there are very few guys who when they’re on the court I watch the whole time (regardless of where the ball is), and Ron is one of them. He’s without a doubt one of the top 10 players in the league.2. Ben Gordon: Him and Dirk definitely lead the playoffs in shots that go in without even hitting the rim or net. He can be painful sometimes when the shot is off, but watching him tear apart the Heat has been great. If he ever gets just a little bit more range, it’s gonna be obscene.3. Bron: I’m a sucker here. I always felt like I was just a little too young to completely appreciate Michael, Larry and Magic, so I’m not taking any chances with LeBron. Whenever he’s on, I’m there.4. Arenas: Yeh, he’s a hog and kind of a dick sometimes, but he has, I think, the best basketball instincts of almost anyone in the league. Always like 10 steps ahead, especially in the passing lanes, and his fourth quarter performance yesterday was legendary.Broadcasting Notes:Top Color Guy: Stever Kerr, but Doug Collins is good and might have won here if not for his constant remarks on how players aren’t giving enough effort. It’s the playoffs douche, everyone’s trying.Worst Color Guy: Steve “Snapper” Jones. Before I even get a chance to laugh at a Bill Walton joke, Jones has already responded with some bull shit argument. Just let Big Red speak and shut up.Play-By-Play: I have no problem with Tirico, Marv, or Harlon, but for some reason I always like listening to Musberger call a game. OK, that’s it. I probably missed a hundred points and a hundred players, but I had to write this in 15 minutes, so back off.
